Dear Ryan (5 months)

I started this last week but just got around to finishing it - so here we go!

Dear little R-

This past month flew by! We have had so much fun dressing up in Christmas clothes each day this month - not sure what we will do once Christmas is over! You turned 5 months on Christmas Eve so I made you a special holiday colored 5 month label to wear for your pics.
You are such a doll! Look at that precious smile! I could just eat you up! Over the past month you have become more alert and are napping less and less during the day. You LOVE to grab things with your little sweet hands and you bring everything right to that little mouth of yours.

We do lots and lots of tummy time because it's good for your neck. Here you are peeking over a pillow (which is also one of the stretches) and you have grabbed your five month label.

You still love sucking on those precious little fingers.

Now you are trying to eat your label!

Your daily schedule has continues to change but I must admit that I am really loving our schedule now! You wake up between 7 or 8am and I feed you for about 45 minutes then we play on the ground while I pump.  We do tummy time and lots of stretches that we have learned from your therapist.  After about 30 minutes of playing you go into your bouncer and watch a Baby Einstein DVD. You have Baby Mozart and Baby Bethoven and you LOVE them both! After your little show you are tired and I help you fall asleep. You take a 30-45 min nap in your swing and are all smiles when you wake up. Once you are up it's time to eat again! Our mornings are pretty booked solid with this schedule so we really don't get out until after 11 or 12 most days. On the weekends we usually skip Baby Eintstein and go for a walk which you really love.

In the afternoons we usually run errands or go visit friends and by evening we are both pretty tired. When daddy comes home he loves to play with you. He also stretches you a lot - you seem more tolerant of him when he stretches you. Between the two of us you are getting lots and lots of stretching. Daddy still gives you your nightly bath and you still love it. He also gives you a little baby massage before you get your PJs on and then he reads you some books. You are really loving books more these days - you actually look at the pictures and smile! You now get your last bottle at 9:30 and are in bed at 10pm. We are so lucky that you fall asleep almost immediatly and sleep through the whole night! It's amazing!

You are talking a lot more these days - so much to say! You haven't mastered rolling over yet but we are working on it. You rolled over once in at the physical therapists office but mommy missed it --oopsies! I know you will do it again soon!

Merry Christmas!

Ryan had a wonderful first Christmas! He woke up early at 6:45 because he was so excited...or more like he had a surprise in his pants! haha! After feeding him and pumping we all went to the living room and opened presents. Ryan laid down and played while we all opened gifts. He enjoyed all the bright wrapping paper that was being tossed around. He loves all of his new toys and has been playing with them all day long! Mommy got a baby food maker and I am so excited to make his baby food - hopefully starting next month!

Just waking up and hanging out with daddy - look who was watching me last night!

Christmas Eve

We woke up this morning and drove down to Katy to spend Christmas with my parents and brothers. Ryan did so well on the car ride down here and didn't even cry once! Hopefully he will be just as good on the ride back. It's so great to be here and so glad both brothers are in town!  Ryan loves hanging out and taking in the new scenery. The holiday season has been so fun with Ryan and we are so excited for his first Christmas. Tonight we will keep with family tradition and make homemade pizza for dinner!

Therapy update

Yesterday we had our second visit to the occupational therapist (Sandy) and it went well. She said that she could already see improvement during tummy time, which was great. Kevin and I had noticed that he was able to tolerate being on his tummy longer too so I guess we are making some progress.  Sandy said that his case was mild-moderate and there wasn't really a set time to tell us on how long it would take to fix.  Sometimes is takes a few months and sometimes she wants to see babies through the walking stage. All we can do is keep working with him and watch his progress. The good news is that we have development on our side.  The only thing that annoys me is that our pediatrician didn't really mention anything (even though this was an issue since birth) until our 4 month appointment. I really wish we could have started on this therapy two months ago. Oh well, there isn't much we can do about it now so I shouldn't harp on that.  Anyhow, we will keep stretching the little man every day and I guess hope we don't stretch him to much that he starts to tip the other way! haha!

We asked if there was anything we could do about how he sleeps (since that is causing his flat head) and she said there wasn't much. Right now his head is flat on the lower left side (because he sleeps with his head leaning this way) and also the top right side (because of gravity).  We could try to lay him on his left side but he doesn't really stay so that doesn't really work.  Plus we don't want him to roll over on his stomach. We are just working on stretching that muscle out more so that his head rotates more to the right. I have already noticed that he will lay looking to the right for short periods of time so hopefully he will continue to do that.

Sandy works with him the entire time and he is seriously worn out afterwards. He took a long nap which was great so that I could get everything ready for the cookie exchange party that we were going later.  We go back in two weeks (since we are out of town next week) and we will revisit the helmet topic then. Hopefully we will make lots of progress and won't need a helmet!

Party Party Party!

We had two birthday parties last week AND a new little friend for Ryan was born! The Sun's welcomed baby boy Truman Brazelle on December 14th. He was 5lbs 15oz and 19 inches long. Can't wait to meet him!

Miss Lyla Hale celebrated her 5th birthday last Thursday. She was such a trooper since her birthday party had to be moved from last Saturday back to Thursday since the whole family was sick! Lyla had a princess party with mini christmas tree decorating and face painting! It was adorable! Michael was in charge of all the games they played and everyone had such a great time! Ryan hung out with grandpa most of the time and just watched all the little people around him. So cute!

Yesterday was Andy's 1st birthday! He had a huge celebration at their restaurant Zenna downtown.  Nat did such a great job with all the decorations! We had a great time seeing everyone and eating all the yummy food!

Christmas comes early

Last night we celebrated Christmas early with Kevin's parents and the Hale family (his sister's family). We are all headed out of town for the holiday so we wanted to get together beforehand and celebrate. The Hales had everyone over to their house where we had a yummy steak dinner and then opened up gifts. We had such a great time! Here are some pics!
