Los Cabos, Mexico

Year FIVE girls trip did not disappoint!

Our latest trip was amazing. It was the ultimate girls trip - so many giggles, lots of lounging, amazing views and of course, delicious food & drinks. And I was totally reenergized when I returned to Dallas. It's Monday morning and although I miss waking up to the beautiful ocean views, I feel ready to get back into my routine. I am guessing that is what a true "vacation" should feel like.

I'm not gonna lie - I was a tad nervous about the whole Mexico girls trip. There hasn't really been any recent news about violence but of course, we were made aware of everything that had been happing in the past five years.

Once we arrived and were picked up by the hotel arranged car service, I felt immediately at ease. There were families vacationing with small kids, and I had also overheard a girl on the plan talking about how she brings her entire family down every Christmas and has never felt unsafe.  Whew. That helped a lot.
I always love a good welcome drink - our sweet driver asked us what we wanted and called the hotel on the way to put our requests in! Gotta love that personal touch.

Cheers!

Once we arrived and settled into our rooms we headed down for some lunch.

And then a little pool & beach time...

Lindsey, Nat and I walked down to check out the crazy waves - they were insane. Soooo crazy that they stole Nat's flip-flops right off her feet! Oops! We saved one...but the other was long gone. The good news was that I had already managed to break one of my flip-flops (damn havianas) and my remaining one was the left one - which was the one Nat needed! So together we have a complete pair.  Didn't want poor Nat to have any shoe drama on this trip!

The sand was super grainy. LIke it felt like you were getting a nice exfoliating scrub when you walked. Well, after a while it started to hurt. Some of those baby rocks were sharp!
Ta - Da!

And then we walked back. It was a nice little workout - uphill in the sand definitely brought that heart rate up! Around 4ish we headed to our rooms to get ready for dinner out.

All cleaned up and ready for dinner!

We headed out to Flora Fields Kitchen for our first dinner.
More drinks of course!

This adorable restaurant is located a little outside Cabo in San Jose del Cabo and everything that you eat in the restaurant is grown on the property. Now that is farm fresh. The modern farmhouse is ridiculously adorable with outdoor seating and twinkle lights at night. There is an extended patio with a beer garden and outdoor bar with live music. Our reservations were at 5:30pm so it was still pretty hot when we got there. Although there were fans all over, we were pretty sweaty and there was a serious fly situation.

Our dinner was delicious - and our only complaint was the crazy amount of flies that were constantly buzzing around us. The restaurant staff tried their best to rid them with fans and even brought us over some rosemary to burn. By the time we were leaving it seems that the flies had also decided to call it a night. All in all, we would totally recommend this place - maybe just plan to eat a little later once the flies have called it quits.

Day TWO

Sleep late.
Breakfast buffet with an ocean view.
Beach. Pool. Spa.
Dinner.

It was beautiful!
Here we are relaxing - and Nat got stuck with a beach vendor. There is actually a rope that the vendors are not allowed to cross unless you "engage" in conversation with them. "Engage" is very loose here.  It seems that something as small as a little eye contact is considered a welcoming gesture.  Anyhow, she struggled with this man for a good 15 minutes before we were able to get him to leave. I totally understand he is just trying to make a living, but the fact that he was trying to charge Nat $90 for a fake silver cuff was absurd.

The waves didn't seem as aggressive as they were the day before AND there were actually some people in the ocean so Lindsey and I decided to check it out. We scoped out the perfect spot and sat down on the shore.  As soon as we sat the largest wave blasted us off our bottoms and tried to sweep us into the ocean. For real. It was shocking.

We decided to stay on our feet and just walk the beach...and eventually decided it was time to head back up to the pool area. We found some chairs on the "Whale Watching Terrace" that worked perfectly!

We grabbed lunch at the pool bar & then spent the rest of the afternoon lounging at the pool and at the spa. Each of us got a massage at the spa and then got ready for another dinner out.

Arriving at Edith's and loving this yellow wall!

So bright and fun!

We arrived early and had planned to walk around and maybe shop. We started to walk over to the Plaza but about halfway there we felt a little unsafe and decided to head back and just walk down to the water. We stumbled upon The Office (we had plans to have lunch there the next day) and grabbed a drink at the bar.

Just hanging. Watching chaos. The whole scene was kinda crazy.

At 7:30 we walked up the street for our reservations at Edith's.

It was hot. At the end of dinner, they bring you cold wet towels...and Nat really loved them. We headed back to the hotel afterward and called it a night!

Last day in Cabo...we didn't leave the hotel. It was amazing.

Just reading my book...

And dinner at the hotel resturant Vela.

Not a bad view!
My stomach actually started cramping up so I was ready for bed pretty quick.

Next morning we had one last amazing buffet breakfast with a view, a little more lounging by the pool then we packed it all up and headed back to the BIG D. So much fun with these ladies. Next up Arizona!

Previous girls trip:
2013 Lindsey's Bachelorette in Napa was sort of the initial trip that we all took together. It was there we decided we needed to make a yearly girls trip - and so we did.

Yiayia's 60th Birthday!

My mom turned SIXTY on September 1st!

Isn't she adorable? I don't know what "60" is supposed to look like but I would say she looks pretty darn good!

My kiddos were so excited to surprise Yiayia with her birthday breakfast.

Trying to get a picture of all the grandkids - Grayson is Cora's little assistant.  He always tried to get her into position for the pictures...but you can see she wasn't super interested.

I catered this breakfast for six adults and four children but it was enough for twenty-five - build your own breakfast tacos with three different options, muffins, croissants, pastries & fruit. Not to mention a full coffee & mimosa bar! When they brought in the SIX bottles of champagne I said, you know there are only SIX of us that can drink...she said, "I've seen worse". lol! Don't worry - we didn't drink all six. And There was SO much leftover food. We ate and ate...then we had some cake!

Cake at 11am? Why not?!?

Sweet little girls!

Helping Yiayia blow out the candles!

Just a little more decor around the room...We hung out for quite a while. The UT game was on and the kids were content so we didn't really head down to the pool until noonish. We spent the day outside and then later that evening we had a babysitter from College Nannies & Tutors come out to the hotel to watch the kiddos while we went out for a little more celebrating!

Claire & T

I guess all I don't have any pictures with the guys. Oops!

Dinner at our family's favorite Austin Steakhouse - Austin Land & Cattle

Cheers to 60! We love you!

First Day for Mockingbird Elementary

The first day of school was a little crazy for this crew - well maybe just for mama. I had to leave by 7am to prep for the BooHoo Breakfast, which meant that Kevin was in charge of getting all THREE munchkins dressed and out the door (as well as himself). I woke both of them up at 6:30 and let's just say they weren't thrilled with the early wake-up call. Grayson cried, I think he was mainly tired but he also said he was worried that he didn't know how to read. And Ryan, well he just didn't want to get up.  And he is usually my early bird! Apparently once they were up and getting ready they started to get excited!

So I left at 7am...
I mean, let's be honest.  I did lay everything out for the boys and pack their lunches and backpacks so Kevin wouldn't be too flustered. The chalkboard signs were also laid out in the middle of the hallway as a gentle reminder.  Kudos to daddy! He did awesome!
***
We met in the cafeteria and all went to the kindergarten wing to drop Grayson off. Hayden led the way. In her PJs. Thank goodness I actually had her in matching ones. lol. Anyhow, Grayson was quiet - I suppose a little nervous but excited too! The kinder class was nuts so we didn't snap a pic with his teacher - I ended up grabbing one at pick up!

We are thirlled that Grayson has Ms Littlefield - same teacher Ryan had!

Ryan asked me to take him to his room - which makes my heart smile. I love that he wanted me with him. He also seemed a little nervous but when we got to his room he found his desk and got settled. His class was a little less chaotic so we were able to grab a pic with Miss Corrigan. She seems so sweet and we are so excited to be in her class this year!

Once drop-offs were finished I headed back down to the cafeteria to the Boo Hoo Breakfast. It was crazy crowded and our tacos had still not arrived. Yikes. We stalled for a little bit and I stalked Rusty Taco...it was supposed to be delivered at 7:30...and didn't get there until 8:10!!! Oye.
Anyhow, not sure that any of the new parents knew my stress level and everything was actually fine. It is a casual and fun event for parents to meet new parents, but I definitely have some notes on changes I need to make for next year!

After cleaning up Hayden and I got back home around 9:30 - I changed her out of her PJs and we basically headed right back up to the school to help out with Kinder lunch.

Once lunch finished Hayden and I  headed back home and I kinda crashed.  I was exhausted and laid on the on the couch while Hayden watched a My Little Pony episode...or three...who's counting. Lol
Around 1pm I was ready to pick the boys up - I actually felt like the day was dragging! And trust me, that never happens! I was just so excited to pick those little nuggets up and hear how their days were. I still can't believe Grayson is in Kinder!

Hayden and I headed back up to school for pick up - I grabbed Ryan from the white top and then Grayson from his classroom. They appeared to be tired but still wanted to play on the playground with friends, so we did!

Getting information out of them was a challenge. I may have bribed them with ice cream. Grayson said he enjoyed it but that he had to do "so many things, like 10 things mom!" I think preschool was a little less busy! He also said that he saw Audrey in the hallway and she waved to him! He was pretty happy about that. Ryan was excited and really seemed proud to be a 2nd grader! I think he is starting to feel like a BIG kid now that his little brother is a kinder kiddo.

Little after-school treat at TCBY...with everyone else in East Dallas. The line was crazy! But so worth it - love those sweet little smiles!
So excited about this school year!

Hayden's 4th Birthday

This sweet little unicorn turned FOUR!

I've always wanted to order one of these cute yard signs, or the number balloons, but then forget. Imagine that.  Luckily one of Hayden's friends had a birthday a week before and posted this unicorn from Yard Candy - I knew Hayden would love it so I immediately ordered one too!

The funny thing is that we currently have SIX signs in our yard (for all of our backyard shenanigans). Like it's ridiculous. So when I told Kevin we were getting another one he was super thrilled! Lol. And typically they deliver the day before the birthday and pick up two days after....well somehow we ended up with this thing in our yard for over a week! Oye. Although it's much cuter than our other yard signs.
We went and got manicures & pedicures at our favorite spot.

And then we went to the American Girl Store! I know she might seem a little young for an AG doll but I figure childhood is only so long...so go for it. Ha.

Plus she was SO excited for cousin Audrey to come along too!

Sweet girls!

Buckled up their dolls!

We stopped at Suzie Cakes for some birthday cupcakes and of course, their dolls came too!

Hayden requested spaghetti for her birthday dinner and cupcakes for dessert!
