Stella and Dot

My friend, Terra Botterman, is selling Stella & Dot and I am hosting a trunk show at my house tomorrow night. I am super excited to see all the fun jewelry again! When Terra had her launch party it was so much fun checking out all the fun stuff. I had been to one Stella & Dot party before but I didn't remember seeing a ton of things I loved - now I am hooked!
I have never really been a jewelry person. I want to be a jewelry person - I always think someone looks so put together when they are all accessorized, but I just never seem to buy the right pieces. Terra helped me pick out a few staples and I have been wearing the heck out of them - they go with so many different outfits PLUS I often get compliments! If you, like me, feel a little overwhelmed when it comes to picking out jewelry, you can't go wrong with any of the pieces below:

Signature Clover Necklace
Deco Drop earrings
These have been my "go to" wedding attire earrings. They are the perfect sparkle for dressy events without going overboard.

Heiress Hoops
These are super fun because you can wear them as just plain gold hoops or you can wear them with a little bling showing.

Bardot Hoop Earrings
These are my favorite by far! They are simple and casual but add some pizzaz to an everyday outfit. They also come in silver and I am adding them to my wish list!

Tomorrow night I have my eye on bracelets! I love the whole stacking trend and can't wait to get a few! Check these out:
This is the Pyramid Double Wrap, the Bardot Spiral Bangle, and the Renegade Cluster Bracelet - LOVE!

I hope to see everyone tomorrow but if you can't make it you should check out the website and I can have Terra place your order! Just let me know!

Meal Plan Monday (November 7)

Once again I am late on last week. I am really trying to get better about that! I typically try and plan our meals during Ryan's nap on Monday (which is right now). I need to know what we are eating because when he wakes up we usually head to the store. I often find myself scrambling to do a lot of things during his Monday nap - well during all of his naps, it's seriously like ADD up in here. I start one thing and then realize that there was something else more important....goodness, it's a wonder I actually do get things finished! I am sure every mom out there knows what I am talking about. Anyhow, enough about that...on to the meals.

November 7 - 11
Monday: Asian Broiled Salmon, Ginger & Lemon Rice, and Roasted Asparagus
The Asian Salmon is a go to item for us. Kevin's parents made the salmon for us one time and we both fell in LOVE. It's delicious and really easy to make. It is a Barefoot Contessa recipe and you can find it here. I have even substitute the salmon for chicken and it still tastes great!
Tuesday: Crispy Tilapia & Spinach fettuccine (Recipe: No More To Go, Weekly menu November 7-11)
This was pretty delicious - the tilapia was actually crispy so I was proud of that.
Wednesday: Cheesy Chicken & Wild Rice Casserole and mixed greens
This was a recipe that I found in a book that my mother-in-law made for me as a gift when we got married. She and her friends compiled their favorite or "Go To" recipes together for me and I love it! I have found lots of yummy things to make including this casserole. Since I am feeling a little lazy and don't want to copy the recipe I googled one that is pretty darn similar and you can find it here.
Thursday: Playgroup
Friday: Dine out

November 14 - 18
I can't seem to come up with much for this week (didn't love the meal plan for No More To Go, so I am on my own). Luckily we are busy so I only need to cook two nights....
Monday: Beef Stir fry (Recipe: Central Market)
Tuesday: Stella & Dot party
Wednesday: xxx (still thinking...)
Thursday: Dinner with friends
Friday: Leftovers/Order in

Uh-oh

Ryan's favorite this to say right now is "Uh-oh" and boy was he right when I dropped my phone during our walk yesterday.

Goodness, I have had an iphone since 2007 and have NEVER had any issues - never lost it, never broke it, never anything - just one happy iphone user. Until now....I can't seem to be one with my phone anymore. Luckily I have another friend that is willing to give me her old phone (until January 12 - when I am eligible for an upgrade). Hopefully I can take care of this one until then - or else I might just be out of luck.
On another note...I am contemplating getting an earpiece. Yup, thats right. I might be walking the streets of Dallas with a blue tooth thingy. In fact, if I had an earpiece to begin with I might have never dropped the phone in the first place.  Well, if I am being completely honest I would actually need to attach the phone to my belt loop - I drop it about 5x's a day. Imagine me, bluetooth headset AND a strap to my belt. Oh my. Anyhow, I digress...
Pushing a stroller, walking a dog and trying to chat on the phone all at once is rather difficult.  I figured out that I can attach Macy's leash to my stroller which gives me a free hand, but it's still hard to talk and navigate - thus the need for an earpiece. I don't even know where to find one but I am going to start looking. Don't worry, I will leave it at home if you invite me to come hang out.

My Little Artist

I have been really bad about documenting Ryan's masterpieces. Each week he creates one little art project and they are so cute. His turkey he brought home today was so adorable I knew I had to get some pictures! I am pretty realistic and realize that I probably won't be able to save them all, so at least getting a snapshot of them is a way of saving them.

Love those little hands!
Just hanging out taking some pics.

Here are a few more crafts that he has brought home recently:

Little ghost feet!

Another sweet little hand. His teachers must be pros at getting these little handprints. I have tried - it's no easy task!

We are excited to have Macy (my brothers dog) staying with us for a little white. Ryan LOVES her and she is so sweet to him. We have been having so much fun going on walks and playing outside in the backyard. Ryan loves to throw Macy her ball (although it doesn't go very far).

Ryan took the ball from Macy and was trying to bring it to Bob.
Bob cared.
As he peed on Ryan's water table.

I am digging this area of our yard (which we never really used before) because it's a nice little dog run. Macy digs it!

Ladies Lunch

On Saturday I hosted lunch for a few of my old co-workers. I hadn't hosted since the day Ryan was born so I was excited to have them over.  Sadly I didn't take any pictures while the ladies were here however, we had a great time catching up!

The menu was:
Garlic roasted butternut squash soup with gruyere croutons
Autumn chopped salad
Chicken salad sandwiches
Apple turnovers with vanilla ice cream
My table setting was very last minute but I was happy with it. The centerpiece (and runner) was made from stuff that I had around the house.  Late Friday afternoon I decided that I needed something else so Ryan and I heade to World market. I LOVE World Market! I found the place mats, napkins and rings at there. The turkey napkin rings are adorable!

The chicken salad was from Central Market.
The Autumn chopped salad was from a site called expressoandcream.com

The butternut squash soup was from rachel ray and it was delicious. Kevin (who got this bowl after the ladies left) actually gave this a 4.75 star rating...my highest yet! I have never had or made butternut squash soup so I really had no idea what to expect. I know Ryan is a fan of butternut squash but I myself wasn't too familiar with it. In fact, the whole butternut squash itself was a mystery but it ended up working out wonderfully. Plus I had a bunch of toppings and I love toppings. The toppings were caramelized onions, plain yogurt (which tastes just like sour cream) and cheesy bread....so yeah I was down with this.

The luncheon was fun and we had a great time...but I am tired and need a break from cooking! Luckily Kevin was excited to grill burgers on Saturday night! They were delicious and just what I needed!

Halloween (last post!)

I know we are six days into November but I still have ONE last Halloween post! Pictures from Halloween - yay!
Kevin as a pinata!

Ryan LOVED this! He even banged on him with his rangers bat!

Sarah and Michael had the best costumes!

Mommy and her pirate!

Ryan was so happy when he grabbed this candy.

Ryan tends to do this a lot - it's typically associated with a mini temper tantrum, however on Halloween it was JUST because. He was hanging out (happy as a lark) then he just put his cheek down on the ground and laid - everyone whipped out there cameras. They thought it was hilarious!

Still hanging out but changed into PJs. He loved Audrey's pumpkin.

Ryan's got his eye on Lyla's candy....

Ryan and his runny nose...

So my little man has a cold.

When he is awake he is in great spirits and plays without missing a beat. Besides the constant stream of snot flowing from his nose and the wet cough, he is his normal self. The problem is when he needs to take a nap or go to bed - he just can't sleep. He is so incredibly congested that he can't stay asleep for long without having a coughing attack that wakes him up. We have done everything his pediatrician recommends plus a few things that "are up to the parents".

For a cold, Ryan's pediatrician recommends using a humidifier, cleaning out his nose with a syringe/aspirator and to sleep on an incline. They do not recommend ANY types of cough syrups/rubs for children under two.

We have been doing all three mentioned above and Ryan is STILL miserable. We have his humidifier on full blast, we have sucked all the snot we can possibly get from his nose and we also have him laying on an incline but it still doesn't seem to help!
On a side note I would like to give major props to the Graco Nasal battery operated aspirator - it is amazing! Ryan loves it - he thinks it's funny and doesn't mind when we stick it up his nose. This may be gross (and it is) but you can see all the gunk you get from their noses in the clear plastic thingy. It kind of makes me want to puke, but I also get excited when I see it fill up because I know its only helping Ryan.

Anyhow, like I said, none of this seems to help much when it's time to sleep.  He is so tired and wants to fall asleep so badly but he ends up coughing and waking himself up every 10 minutes.

When Kevin went to the store last night to grab some stuff for dinner he hit up the medicine aisle and came home with some Baby Vics Vapor Rub and some ZarBees cough syrup. It says on the package that it is safe for children 12 months +. Immediately I wondered why our pediatrician hadn't recommended this. It claims to be all natural - made from honey. I called the after hours nurse line and she basically told me that they cannot recommend anything besides what she had told me before.  The nurse on call said she had never heard of it and that it must be new because she was actually getting a lot of calls about it. Has anyone heard of this or used it?

I also asked about the Vics baby rub and she said they don't recommend that either because anything you rub on your babies skin is absorbed by their bodies. I told her the package said it was safe for babies 3 months and older! Ugh...talk about an unfulfilling call. I can't remember her exact words but it was basically that it was obviously most likely safe, they can't recommend it, but that "its up to the parents". She said there were a lot of things that are "all natural" that parents ask about and/or that some parents swear by, but that they can't technically recommended - which to me sounded like "It's fine, try it, see if it works...if not, it's no harm." I hope I'm not crazy in understanding that from our call...

Anyhow, Ryan was so miserable and trying to pass out that we ended up rubbing his chest with the vapor rub (It is a non-medicated formula with soothing aloe vera and fragrances of eucalyptus, rosemary and lavender) and only half the recommended dosage of the ZarBees syrup. It worked like a charm. He slept from 6:45pm until 7:30am (thats with the time change)....so almost 13 hours! We had to check on him a few times to make sure he was ok since he was sleeping so soundly.

So even though we ended up using it I am scared I am gong to see some crazy report on how this stuff isn't actually all natural or something is wrong with it.  I have tried looking for reviews online but can't seem to find any. I realize that there was a ton of testing done for it to even make it on the market but I guess you just question everything as a parent. Does anyone have any experience with it? Does anyones pediatricians have thoughts on it? Good or bad I would love to hear!
