Ryan's Birthday Experiment

We celebrated Ryan's 5th birthday with a Science party.

I am working on 'scaling down' my parties so we only invited five year olds AND it was a "Drop Off" party (if your kid was comfortable).  Most of the parents thought I was crazy but it was actually kind of amazing. The kids were all so good...and since we had entertainment I really didn't have to do much. I wasn't running around like a crazy woman which was actually kinda nice! I totally recommended going this route. Anyhow, Ryan has been so excited about his party - counting down "sleeps" for days...so cute! He loved helping make some decorations and some of the treats!

Cat from Everything Design created all of the printables - banners, labels, & cupcake toppers.  She also made his adorable invitations:

Ryan helped with the Jello....he's a good stirrer

Our cake pops were also homemade. Ryan decorated them with those silver balls...and he also ate quite a few as well.
And my first attempt at decorative sugar cookies. Well, let's just say I would never make it as a baker. A lot of things went wrong but, all in all...they were for five year olds and they could care less how professional they look. Also, it didn't bother me when only a couple bites were eaten and then they were tossed aside for the next treat.

I love dressing the part so of course we found some "science" gear for the kiddos to dress up in.

 Sweet little scientists!

Dr. Boom from Mad Science of Dallas came to our house to conduct some fun experiments for the kiddos.  There was fire, water, slime, candy and a hovercraft...pretty cool party if you ask any five year old.

The kids were pretty excited about it all...so cute!

Lastly COTTON CANDY! Yum!

Curious George

Over the past few weeks Ryan's teachers have asked all the parents to come and read to the kids. I was really excited about reading to his class and the best part was - he was excited too! Each week someone's mommy came so he was thrilled when I told him this week was our turn. He knew right away which book he wanted me to read...

He was so excited that I was coming to read to his class

When we arrived at school he was all smiles. In his classroom he kept telling all of his friends that his mommy was going to read - he was so proud and it was so darn cute. While the other kids played and waited for the rest of the children to arrive Ryan sat on the rug with a huge smile on his face. HIs buddy Jack joined him....they were ready for my story!

Then Ryan realized since it was his mommy reading he got to sit up with me! He quickly got himself a chair and carried it to the front of the room. I really wish I had gotten some pics of this - his teacher might have one so I will have to ask.

Ryan decided that we would read Curious George Goes Camping (slightly obsessed with ol George right now) - so we started with it. He would get so excited about the book and blurt out what was going to happen...especially when George had to take a bath in tomato juice! The kids seemed to love the book so we read another - The Halloween one...another one of Ryan's favorites.

I had such a wonderful time reading to his class and was on such a high after seeing how proud he was of me - it was the cutest thing ever! I know eventually I will be embarrassing to him, but for now he thinks I'm pretty cool.

Happy momma :)

Happy Birthday Little Man!

Ryan turned TWO on July 24th and I am finally getting around to posting about his special day! Originally we were suppose to be traveling home from Montana on his birthday (not getting in to DFW until midnight) so perhaps it worked out a little better...just being positive :) Although he didn't get to spend the day with family (besides Kevin and I) we still had a great time celebrating!

Since his birthday fell on a Tuesday I wanted to make sure he got to celebrate with his buddies at MDO.  I picked up a cookie cake for him to take to school and his awesome teachers took lots of pics of their little party - they know me well :)

After school Kevin and I had a little mini birthday celebration for the little guy.

A few small presents and some more cookie cake - this time with ELMO!

Opening up all his birthday cards!

Time to sing happy birthday!

And of course - eat cake!

Ryan is a huge fan of the icing.

Opening presents is always fun! Ryan was very serious with his opening....little by little they finally came unwrapped.

And of course he played with each item before moving on to the next.

After playing with his new toys it was time to head out for dinner! Since Ryan didn't really tell us what he wanted to eat, we decided that burgers would be fun (mainly because that's what I was craving).
We went to Stackhouse Burgers and it was delicious...but Ryan wasn't much of a fan. Oh well, hopefully next year he will let us know what he wants for his birthday dinner!

When we got home Ryan had a couple more gifts waiting for him. He received a plasma car from his great grandparents (my mom's parents) and a balance bike from his grandparents (Kevin's parents).  His Yiayia and Papu got him a play kitchen but we decided to keep it in Houston and his Pro Yiayia and Papu sent him a check so that he could pick something out! What a lucky little man! He is very thankful and so are his parents!

And his balance bike

What a fun little day for my little bug! Can't wait to share pics from his party which was this past weekend!
