Halloween Decorations

Our house is officially De-Halloweened - everything is packed up nicely in orange and black containers and put away in the garage storage area. Whew - that's always the hardest part. I finally took pictures of everything so I am ready to share all my work!

To sit on top of our wine rack I made these Halloween apothecary jars. They were super easy and cheap to make but they are also not very sturdy. I was constantly worried they were going to fall over and break - not sure they will make an appearance next year. I got the idea on Pinterest and the tutorial is here.  The printed Halloween subway art was from one of my favorite blogs, Eighteen25. I just printed it out at Kinkos and then used a frame from Ikea.

To spook up our new hutch in the dining room I created this Boo garland from House of Smiths. The large spider worked perfectly hanging on the edge - I found that at JoAnns.

This is a shot of my sofa table. (The orange bowl with treats wasn't there all month long - just for the party.) I found the black and orange glitter sticks at Home Goods. I guess I didn't get a vertical picture of this.

One of my favorite decorations was this skull under my cloche. I got the cloche at Wisteria Outlet and love that I can repurpose it for everyday and every holiday! I found the charger at Hobby Lobby then used a candlestick (painted black) and a Halloween plate (similar to the pumpkin one below) to set some spanish moss on for my skull. So fun!

I displayed this on our ledge/buffet that is in between the kitchen and dining area. I added the spiders to the vases to make it more Halloween-y. I found the pumpkin plate at Hobby Lobby (one of three that I found). The printable was found here. The skulls were from Joanns.

That wraps up the Halloween decorations that I had all month long. The next set of pictures are from our pumpkin carving party.

I was so excited to create a Monster Munch bar! I am all about "Make you Own x" - I just think its so darn cute. I got the idea on pinterest - I was looking at food to serve and then I saw monster munch. I thought it looked yummy but I know everyone likes different sweets/salts so I decided to deconstruct it and let people make there own - yum! Viola - the Monster Munch Bar!
I created the sign the day of the party - I used my cricut to cut the letters out then used wrapping paper to make a "custom label". The rest is just black fabric wrapped over a board. (I guess the items in the bookcases were there all month too. I kinda forgot about them since they are below eye level.)

I made all the printables myself in adobe illustrator and printed everything at home- was so proud that I didn't have to buy any or spend ANY time at kinkos! UGH it always takes forever there! I just printed out chevron pattern and cut the paper in to rectangles. Then made the circle printables and used my circle punch. Popped them on with pop dots. Easy peasy!

We had butter popcorn, white cheddar and vanilla covered. The skeleton hands are salad tongs from Target.

Of course I labeled everything....

I swear - I make oreo balls for every party. They are so easy and apparently adapatable. All I added was blue icing then little mini m&ms to make them look like eyes.

Cheese, who doesn't love cheese? Thanks to Yia Yia T for the name.

Yummy cupcakes!

The drink station.

For some reason I didn't take a more organized picture of everything. This was the best I got and the food table wasn't complete - oh well. I made the Halloween banner (another pinterest inspiration). I cut the burlap in the pennant shape then to make the letters I used my cricut to create a stincel. Using that I sponge painted the letters on. It was easy and I think it turned out cute. On the table the platters that are holding the monster eyes and cheese are just cylinder vases with Halloween tights! I hot glued the orange chargers so they didn't topple over.

The last thing that I made was the party favors. Kevin helped me assemble these - what a wonderful husband.

Can't wait for next years party!

Meal Plan Monday (October 31)

Obviously I never posted my meal plan for this week on Monday so I will now.

Monday: Halloween - Block Party (No cooking!)

Tuesday: Rosemary Flank Steak, Sauteed Fresh Spinach and Au Gratin Potatoes (From No More To Go)
Review: The rosemary grilled flank steak is one of my favorites. It is super easy and delicious. We had made it before and loved it so I thought it would be perfect to cook while my mom was visiting. Kevin gives at 4.5 star (remember thats out of 5...still searching for that meal that will win a 5 star) and my mom LOVED it. The Au Gratin potatoes were also AMAZING - I was never a fan of them but I guess I am now! Yum Yum Yum!

Au Gratin Cheesy Potatoes (R2) SERVES 4
Ingredients: 2 lbs potatoes
2 tablespoons unsalted butter 1 cups gruyere (or any cheese of your liking), grated 1/2 cups half-and-half kosher salt freshly cracked black pepper 1 teaspoons thyme
Directions: 1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. 2. Peel and dice the potatoes. 3. Parboil the potatoes 5 minutes in salty water. 4. Either spray a large baking dish with oil or rub it lightly with butter. 5. Drain and then toss the potatoes in the baking dish with the butter,
thyme, more salt and pepper. 6. Mix almost all the cheese (save some for the top) throughout the potatoes
and pour the half & half evenly over all. (should not completely cover the

potatoes) 7. Top the dish with the reserved cheese. 8. Bake for one hour or until the cheese is nicely melted, bubbling and turning a carmel color.

Wednesday: Tortilla Soup (From one of my favorite recipe sites: Our Best Bites) This is an oldie but a goody. The weather was getting a little cooler and this was the perfect meal for us!

Thursday: Chicken and Dumplings (Found on Pinterest)
Review: LOVED...this was delicious and I am definitely going to make sure I have all the ingredients on hand for a "snow" day this winter. It smells up your entire house with yumminess - you have to try! The recipe is easy peasy the only thing I did differently was add another can of chicken broth - it was too thick for my taste.

Friday: Date night with the hubs. We have been so busy lately and haven't had much "us" time so we decided to hit the town and try a restaurant we haven't been before. The winner is Samar - all of our friends have said the atmosphere is awesome and the food is amazing! Can't wait to try!

Also, I am finally (it's hard to get everyone's schedule coordinated) hosting a luncheon with some of my old coworkers (the last one I did was the day Ryan was born!) I am excited to make some fun fall food for the girls! We will be having a butternut squash soup (still deciding between recipes and I might go a little crazy and combine two), autumn chop salad (found on pinterest) and chicken salad sandwiches. I am still debating on desert but it will be something easy!

Buffalo Chicken Dip

My sister-in-law introduced me to this yummy party pleaser! I made it for our Halloween party and everyone loved it.

A few people requested the recipe so here it is:
2 chicken breasts (cooked & cubed)
1.5 cups buffalo wing sauce
1 cup blue cheese dressing
8oz cheddar cheese
2 pkg cream cheese

Throw it in a crock pot on high for 1 hr - stir a couple times and DONE! And its Yum! Serve with celery, bread or tortilla chips!

First Annual Pumpkin Carving Party

This year we hosted our first pumpkin carving party and had so much fun! Everyone seemed to get in to it (especially Mr. Park) and I am excited to make this an annual event. The one thing I learned is that I need more prizes! Those kiddos take a contest pretty seriously! :) I am posting pictures from the party here and then doing a separate post for all my decorations - I am sure that does not surprise anyone.

Halloween at Lakewood

Every year Lakewood Country Club throws a Halloween party which is fun for everyone. They have dinner, dancing and costume contests. Ryan and his shark costume didn't win this year - he lost to twins dressed up as golfers. Not sure how we are going to compete against twins every year, but I will come up with something now that I know who the real competition is! lol.

Ryan had a blast - it's a lot of stimulation but he seems to enjoy it. Plus its always super fun when his cousins and grandparents are around as well!

When you walk in they had a spooky little set up and a photographer to take pics. Ryan was not a fan of this whole thing so the picture below was the best I could get. The photographer didn't even get one because my flashed messed hers up - then he started crying. Oops!

Then came dinner. Little man loves his corn dogs. He was happy because grandma was there to play with him and feed him.

Did I mention he loves ketchup?

Hanging with Uncle Michael

Ryan was a huge fan of the glow stick....and of course it went in his mouth

And little Miss Lyla was a bride! So cute!
